UHD Local Tournament Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play?

Two teams of four students each play against each other in two rounds which each last for seven minutes. The round starts with a "toss-up" question, which either team may try to answer by buzzing in. During a toss-up question, there should be no conferring between team members. Also, if you buzz in before the speaker is done reading the question and you get the answer wrong, the judges will deduct 5 points from your team’s score and the other team will get to hear the rest of the question and get a chance to respond. If you get a toss-up question right, then your team will score 10 points and you will have the opportunity to answer a bonus question. On a bonus question, your team may confer, but only the answer said by the team captain will be counted. Bonus questions vary in points.

What kind of questions do you ask?

College Bowl questions cover a wide range of subjects from math to science to history to art to literature and everything else in between. There are also many questions that cover current events, pop culture, and sports.

How do I register a team?

If you and a group of 2-3 friends want to form a team or you wish to form a team on behalf of a student organization that you are a member of, fill out the registration form and return it to Dr. Dahlberg’s office in 1041-South or Dr. Moosally’s office in 1034-South.

Can I register without a team?

Absolutely! Just fill out the attached form, indicate you need to be placed on a team, and return it to Dr. Dahlberg or Dr. Moosally’s office.
